Cold storage facilities have historically installed fluorescent lighting in their buildings to counter the significant release of heat given off by traditional lightbulbs. While fluorescent lighting offers a slight improvement, their heat output is still enough to produce a potential increase in ambient temperature of 39 degrees for every 45 cubic feet of volume in just one hour.

To reduce heat output, decrease energy usage, and simplify maintenance at this 283,000 square foot cold storage facility, IoEnergy swapped out 438 fluorescent lights for high efficiency LED lights, which use 60% less energy than fluorescents. The upgrade resulted in a positive environmental impact equivalent to the planting of 4,876 trees, and a financial gain of $51,276 in annual savings.
